Google Sites templates and themes. What's the difference?

When using Google Sites its important to understand the differences between Google Sites templates, and Google Sites themes. Here's a simple explainer that will help you understand the difference between the two.

Google Sites templates

Google Sites templates provide structure for your website. A template will have predefined pages, layouts, and placeholders for different types of content (e.g., images, titles, forms etc) to allow you to create web pages without having to start from scratch. Think of a template as a 'layout blueprint' that helps to jump-start your website project with a predefined structure.

Google Sites themes

On the other hand, Google Sites themes focus more on the visual aspects of your site. A theme defines the colour schemes, fonts, and overall styling elements to ensure a cohesive look and feel across your whole website. It's like the paint and decorations you choose to personalise your blueprint. They're applied across the website so if you edit and change your theme (for example change font), it changes all of those elements across the website. Good eh?
